The Purpose of the Step Test

So, I took my Harvard Step Test yesterday. I thought it was going to be an endurance thing but it wasn't. It serves as a base line measurement for your resting and working heart rate.

We take our relaxed resting heart rate. Mine was 88. Then, you step in cadence with a metronome on a raised step for 3 minutes, wait 15 seconds and then take your heart rate again. Mine was 114. According to the Harvard Step test, I'm in an average range.

I'm quite frankly surprised. By the time I make it from Jowers to Centennial I usually have my heart pounding in my throat, I'm gasping for air, and sweating profusely. I thought I would be a lot worse. I'm 5 foot 1 and about 210 lbs. My heart has to work really hard to keep me circulated and alive.

My goal for this aerobics class is pretty standard. To improve my cardiovascular and pulmonary performance. Basically, make my heart and lungs stronger in order to not feel like Fatty McGee going up the stairs. That's an Adam Sandler reference for you youngins.

With that, I'm going to finish my protien shake and meine Deutsch Hausaufgaben (German homework) before heading out to school. Tschüs!
